This report provides a comprehensive evaluation of Quickleen International (ABN 62 900 234 131) and its apparent owner, Mr. Richard Matusik. The investigation was initiated in response to a request to assess the legitimacy of the company, its products, and the reputation of Mr. Matusik, following a potentially dubious offer for distribution rights. The research process involved a wide-ranging, parallel investigation into the company's corporate structure, legal history, product claims, and business practices.
The findings of this investigation reveal a significant history of legal and financial misconduct associated with Richard Matusik and his business entities. The research has uncovered court-proven instances of deliberate deception, a liquidated company, personal bankruptcy, and unverified product marketing claims. The overwhelming evidence points to a high-risk business environment with a pattern of misrepresentation towards distributors. Based on these findings, we strongly advise against entering into any business relationship or financial agreement with Quickleen International or Richard Matusik.
The name "Quickleen International" is associated with multiple entities, creating a confusing corporate history. The primary individual is Richard Matusik, who founded the business in 2001 [1]. The Australian Business Number (ABN) provided by the user (62 900 234 131) is registered to Richard Matusik as an Individual/Sole Trader, an entity that has been active since March 2019 [2]. This appears to be the successor to a liquidated company, OPM Quickleen International Pty Ltd (ACN 115 506 075), which was also controlled by Matusik [3].
| Entity Name | ABN / ACN | Status | Key Individual |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quickleen International | 62 900 234 131 | Active (since March 2019) | Richard Matusik |
| OPM Quickleen International Pty Ltd | 115 506 075 | Liquidated (since December 2018) | Richard Matusik |
This transition from a proprietary limited company to a sole trader structure following liquidation is a significant red flag, as it may be a tactic to shed liabilities while continuing the same business operations.
The investigation uncovered a history of serious legal judgments and financial insolvency.
A former distributor, Quickleen NZ, successfully sued OPM Quickleen International Pty Ltd and Richard Matusik in the County Court of Victoria. In August 2018, the court found the defendants guilty of deliberately providing false and misleading information regarding the sales figures and profitability of distributorships [4]. The court ordered a repayment of $389,400 for the original license and stock, plus $225,000 in legal costs, for a total judgment of $614,400 [4]. As of November 2019, this debt remained unpaid, leading the distributor to initiate bankruptcy proceedings [4].
In addition to the County Court case, Richard Matusik was reportedly being sued by two other distributors in the Federal Court in Sydney for Unconscionable Conduct and Misleading or Deceptive Conduct [4]. While the specific case files for these actions were not located, the pattern of litigation from multiple distributors is a major concern. The liquidation of OPM Quickleen International Pty Ltd was initiated by a creditor, DAMCO AUSTRALIA PTY LTD, in August 2016, indicating a history of financial distress and disputes long before the final liquidation [5]. Following these events, Richard Matusik was reportedly declared bankrupt [6].
| Legal / Financial Event | Outcome / Status | Source(s) |
|---|---|---|
| County Court Victoria Case | Guilty verdict for providing false and misleading information; $614,400 judgment debt (unpaid). | [4] |
| Federal Court Sydney Cases | Allegations of Unconscionable and Misleading Conduct from two other distributors. | [4] |
| Company Liquidation | OPM Quickleen International Pty Ltd was placed into creditors' voluntary liquidation on December 20, 2018. | [3] |
| Personal Bankruptcy | Richard Matusik was reportedly declared bankrupt following the liquidation and legal judgments. | [6] |
Quickleen International makes several marketing claims about its products that could not be fully substantiated.
Toxicity
The company claims its products are HACCP Approved and 100% non-toxic [7] [8]. However, the HACCP certification could not be verified on the official HACCP International register [9]. Furthermore, a 2013 Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for Quickleen-S lists Sulphamic Acid (1-5%) as an ingredient, which is classified as an irritant to the skin and eyes (Risk Phrases R36/38) [10]. This directly contradicts the claim of being "100% non-toxic" and "safe to touch."
Independent product reviews are scarce. On ProductReview.com.au, Quickleen has a mediocre rating of 3.0 out of 5 stars, based on only two reviews [11]. One review is positive from a long-term user, while the other, from a cleaning business owner, reports customer complaints about the product causing issues on shower screens [11]. This mixed feedback, combined with the unverified marketing claims, raises doubts about the product's universal effectiveness and safety.
Quickleen International appears to operate on a distributor model, with various entities representing the brand in different regions, such as Quickleen Perth, Quickleen NSW, and formerly Quickleen NZ [12]. This model, in itself, is not illegitimate. However, the legal history demonstrates that the company has used this model to make false promises about profitability to potential distributors. The lack of a formal Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD) and the history of legal action for deceptive conduct suggest that the distribution rights offer is a high-risk investment opportunity.
The evidence gathered during this investigation paints a clear picture of a business operation with a history of deceptive practices, legal judgments, and financial instability. The offer presented to you, which sounds "too good to be true," is likely just that. The reputation of Mr. Richard Matusik is severely compromised by court findings of deliberate dishonesty and a pattern of behavior that has led to significant financial losses for his business partners.
Based on the extensive red flags identified, it is our unequivocal recommendation to DECLINE the offer for Queensland distribution rights and to cease any further business dealings with Richard Matusik and Quickleen International. The risk of financial loss and potential legal complications is exceptionally high.
